A Great Morning Routine to Start Your Day
Have you ever thought about how you start your mornings? That precious time when the day is new, and the possibilities are endless? Imagine waking up and feeling in control, energized, and ready to take on whatever comes your way. That’s the magic of a morning routine!
Let’s face itโmornings can be tough. The alarm goes off, and the day feels like a race from the moment you open your eyes. Admittedly, I’m not a morning person. I wake up early, but I’m not an overly spunky person. It takes me a bit, and usually, a cup of coffee, to get in full gear.
But what if you took a little time to set the tone for your day instead of rushing through the morning? A morning routine doesn’t have to be complicated or take hours; it’s all about creating a few simple habits that make a big difference. So, in today’s post, I am sharing some of my morning routine habits that work for me and might just work for you too.
Get Moving
First things first, let’s get moving! It doesn’t have to be a full-blown workout (unless you’re into that, which I’m not). Even a quick stretch, a short walk, or a few minutes of yoga can work wonders. My morning movement routine is a walk with the pups for 15-20 minutes.
Moving your body in the morning gets the blood flowing, wakes you up, and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day. Plus, it’s a great way to shake off any sleepiness and start feeling energized.
Read and Reflect
Next, carve out a few minutes for personal growth. Whether it’s reading a few pages of a book or spending some quiet time with a morning devotion, feeding your mind with something positive can help you stay focused and motivated.
Pair this with quiet timeโno distractions, just you and your thoughts. You could be journaling, praying, meditating, or simply sitting in silence. It’s a chance to clear your mind, set your intentions, and mentally prepare for the day ahead.
Avoid the Noise
Here’s a game-changer: skip the news and steer clear of negativity first thing in the morning. Skipping the morning news has been a game-changer for me this year!
I love to be informed, and I am fascinated by the strategy and message of politics, but not watching the news in the morning (actually not at all) has positively impacted my life this year. (I stay informed & read a few news articles, but never in the morning.)
Regardless of what channel you watch, the media makes its living off of fear and negative headlines. It repeats the same stories and talking points over and over, and we rarely feel inspired. Anxious and stressed are more like it.
Instead, use that time for something uplifting, like reading or listening to your favorite music or a podcast that inspires you.
Practice Gratitude
One simple habit that can transform your mornings is making a gratitude list. Take a moment to jot down a few things you’re thankful for. I like to journal after I read each morning and always make a point of writing down three things I am grateful for.
They don’t have to be bigโmaybe it’s the sunshine, a good cup of coffee, or even the fact that you woke up with a roof over your head. Starting your day with gratitude puts you in a positive mindset and helps you focus on the good things in life.
Make Your Bed
And lastly, make your bed. It might sound small, but making your bed can set the tone for a productive day. It gives you an immediate sense of accomplishment and creates a tidy space that feels good to come back to later. Personally, I feel better when I am organized!
Morning Routine – Final Thoughts
When you combine all these pieces, you’ve got a morning routine that fuels your body, nourishes your mind, and sets a positive tone for the day. It doesn’t have to be perfectโwhat matters is that it works for you.
So, why not give it a try? Start tomorrow. Wake up a little earlier, move your body, take time to read and reflect, avoid the noise, practice gratitude, and yes, make that bed! You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel and how much more ready you are to take on the day.
Here’s to mornings that inspire and motivate us to live our best lives!
